Halloween Bake Sale!

Halloween themed bake sale

My colleague and I decided to hold a bake sale and raffle for the Guide Dogs charity (our company does a lot of work for them) for everyone in our office building. We put SO much effort into it, contacting local businesses for the raffle, planning what we were going to bake and then this week a constant stream of baking. Literally, I feel like I haven't had any time to myself. It's all for a good cause though so I don't mind!

Halloween themed bake sale!
I made some red velvet cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies and the Ghost Cake Pops, my colleague made the adorable vampire cookies (one had already been snatched up when I took this photo) and the toffee apples!

The day went really well, we raised £170 by the end of the day through the bake sale and the raffle and everyone in the building seemed to really enjoy it which I'm really pleased about!

Halloween Themed Bake Sale
My colleague made the spider cupcakes and toffee apples and a local restaurant kindly donated the delicious chocolate brownies to us!

Did you know that for one guide dog to be raised, trained and looked after from it's birth up until retirement costs £50,000? That's SO much money and that's for each guide dog. My company has sponsored a guide dog throughout it's whole life and so we are all helping out to raise that £50,000 so I'm glad that we've been able to help out, even if it is just a small amount compared to that figure!

Halloween themed bake sale!
We even made a "spooky selfie corner" with cute Halloween props to add in extra fun to the day!

I'm not going to go on about it, but I'll just let you see the pictures of the day and hopefully you'll see all of the hard work we put into the bake sale & raffle.

If you do want to donate money to the Guide Dogs charity, you can do so here.

And yes, I did sort of dress up.

Halloween selfie!

*Quick note to say- Guide Dogs do NOT know I have written this post and have not asked me to do so, I just wanted to talk about what an amazing cause they are.

Halloween Crafts!

As you read this, I will be preparing for my work's charity bake sale & raffle for the Guide Dogs charity- I've been planning this with my colleague since the beginning of September and we've worked so hard on it!

This whole week has been spent making cakes & cookies for the bake sale, running around Reading collecting the prizes donated by some very kind local businesses and finally yesterday was spent getting the last bits and pieces ready.

Halloween Crafts

Ages ago, I saw this amazing tutorial on how to make a Spiderweb fascinator and decided to create it myself to wear to the bake sale. It was pretty simple, I bought some floral wire and pliers from Hobbycraft and did it in about an hour and a half. It was super fiddly and took some patience, but I was so proud when I finished it!

Halloween Crafts

I then made my colleague a bat one- I didn't follow a tutorial for this so it was super hard and extremely fiddly, but as she was going to go for a "vampy" look, we thought it was really fitting. She also has blonde hair, so I bought a gold hairband to blend in with her hair and to make the bat stand out even more.

Halloween Pumpkins

Then we both carved pumpkins! My colleague Hannah's pumpkin is the adorable one on the left, and mine is the BOO! pumpkin on the right.
I actually found out that I must be allergic to pumpkin, as touching the pumpkin for a long period of time made my hands swell up and gain a beautiful lumpy bumpy rash. I felt very witchlike, so I guess it was pretty fitting! I'm just glad I've never tried a Pumpkin Spiced Latte...

It's made me realise how much I enjoy making things- I know I make cakes etc., but now I'm definitely going to try doing some more crafts for Christmas, so hopefully I'll be able to share those with you!

What are your plans for Halloween?

Halloween Recipe Round Up!

This month I've posted a few Halloween themed cakes and hopefully they will be helpful to anyone who's throwing a Halloween themed party!

I'm holding a Halloween themed bake sale at my work tomorrow, so I'm currently working non-stop to get everything ready for that! I thought I'd do a round-up of all my Halloween themed bakes, so if you are thinking of making anything, hopefully these will help you!

Blogger Interview Tag

Blogger Interview tag

I was tagged by my dear friend Danielle to do the Blogger Interview tag, so a big thank you to Danielle for that! I thought this would be a really interesting tag to do, give you a bit of a behind-the-scenes look into Cakey Dreamer and myself!

How did you get into blogging?
When I was about 13 or 14, I had a little Disney fansite (it was called Disney Promises- what kind of name is that?! Also, don't laugh, there were loads of Disney fansites back then, it was a thing I promise!) and it was pretty popular, but eventually got hacked and I lost everything after 2 years of work... Devastated. Then 6 years later I started blogging in December 2014- so nearly a year ago! I can't believe that actually, it doesn't feel that long ago at all! I basically started to read a few blogs like Sweetapolita and Bakerella and decided that I wanted to create my own little space to show off my cakes and bakes. I'd gone through a horrific personal experience and I was actually pretty depressed... focusing on my blog has helped bring me out of that and I feel a lot better about everything now!

What advice would you give to a blogger just starting out?
Don't expect to be Zoella after a few days, months or even years- what has happened to her is very one-in-a-million and there are now a million blogs out there trying to copy her success. Don't get caught up in the hype! But, as long as you enjoy blogging and you don't take it too seriously (i.e., still have a life beyond blogging!), you'll be fine. I love blogging and I love the people I've met through it and the opportunities I've had and there's no reason you won't love it too- just don't be naive and think you'll be living in a million pound house next week!

What would be your dream campaign?
I'd love to do something for the Make a Wish foundation. I don't know what or how, I don't know if that would even be possible, I just know that I love what they do for poorly children and I'd love to be a part of that somehow! Failing that, I love to help out with animal charities, I'm about to do a  Halloween themed bake sale and raffle for the Guide Dogs charity at work!

Do you have a plan for your blog?
Honestly, no. I have blog posts planned and I kinda know what I want this blog to be, but it changes all of the time. Sometimes I want to be more of a food blog, other times I want to be more of a lifestyle blog and I know you're "supposed" to have a plan and a niche etc. etc., but hey- this is my blog and there are clearly people out there who enjoy reading whatever kind of niche this blog is, so... that's my plan. To keep writing posts my lovely readers enjoy!

What do you think about rankings?
This is something I just don't know- Sometimes I really care and I want to build this blog up to be successful, and then other times I just think "what does it matter as long as I'm enjoying it?". I don't want to be a full time blogger, the most I would ever do would be part time (along with a cake decorating business I hope!), so I guess it doesn't matter as much to me as it does to someone who's desperate to make it their full time income.

I'm awful because I never tag people in these, but if you do want to do this tag, please do it and let me know so I can read your answers! :)

If you'd like to know anything more about me though, feel free to leave your question in the comments- I'm thinking of doing a Q&A for my blog's 1st birthday in December!

Devil Cupcakes | Halloween Cake Decorating!

Devil Cupcakes

I've been really enjoying making these Halloween themed bakes the past few weeks and today I have a new one for you!

I've been looking through Pinterest for Halloween themed bakes and I've seen a lot of zombies, ghosts, witches etc., so I decided to do something a bit different. You always see devil costumes at Halloween, so I thought I'd do some devil cupcakes!

I made some vanilla cupcakes and topped them with red buttercream. I'm actually a bit disappointed in the colour of the buttercream, I used Dr Oetker's bright red food colouring gel but it still seemed to go pink which is annoying!

Devil Cupcakes

I then made little fondant horns (which I used a similar technique to how I made the witch's hat out of fondant a few weeks ago) and left them to harden slightly before I added them to the buttercream.

Again, like my other bakes this is really simple, quick and easy to make before a Halloween Party or get together.

Let me know if you make these by tweeting me @cakeydreamer! :)

Marble Cake | #WrenFamilyFavourites

Everyone has those recipes that they made with their parents or grandparents as a child, don't they? Those wonderful foods that as soon as you see, smell or taste them bring back all of the memories of those special people. Wren Kitchens has come up with a fantastic campaign (#WrenFamilyFavourites) to hear all of those nostalgic memories- and I was lucky enough to be chosen to be part of it!

Growing up, my mum used to bake the most amazing cakes, she's probably the person who influenced my baking the most. She didn't do much in terms of decorating, but her cake baking was fantastic and I remember getting super excited every time I smelt one of her cakes baking in the oven.

My favourite cake of hers was a Marble cake- a vanilla sponge cake with chocolate swirls running through it. For me, this cake just completely reminds me of my childhood and the special treat every time we had this cake.

I'm going to show you how to make your own Marble Cake for you and your family to enjoy!

  • 225g butter
  • 225g caster sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 225g self raising flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp Cocoa Powder
  1. Preheat oven to 170 degrees and grease a 8in cake tin.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk your butter until it is smooth and soft. Then add in the caster sugar.
  3. Add the eggs, making sure that all is mixed in well.
  4. Sieve the flour and add slowly to the mixture, stirring while you add.
  5. Once all is mixed in, pour 1/4 of the mixture into another mixing bowl.
  6. In the second smaller mixture, add the cocoa powder (sieved) and stir until all is mixed in well.
  7. In the first mixture, add the vanilla extract.
  8. This takes time but is worth it- spoon in the two mixtures into the cake tin one at a time,  making sure that it is evenly spread so there are no gaps. Have fun with it, spoon chocolate over vanilla and then vanilla over chocolate etc.!
  9. Once all of the two mixtures are in the cake tin, take a skewer and start swirling! Make sure that you don't make the chocolate become too dominant or else you'll end up with just a chocolate cake.
  10. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
  11. Leave to cool completely and then the rest is up to you- Marble cakes usually look pretty enough without decorating, but if you want to surprise people you can cover the outside so they only discover the marbley goodness once they cut themselves a slice!

Please let me know if you try to make this cake yourself as I'd love to see them- and make sure you check out Wren Kitchen's blog to see the other campaign recipes!

*This post is part of the Wren Kitchens' Family Favourites campaign and I was not paid to write this post.

Fitness Update- October

Fitness Update- October

In February this year, I decided to start getting fitter and try to lose some weight ready for my holiday and just for my general health! Since then, most months I've written an update on my fitness, letting you guys know the highs and lows of my journey! You can read the previous posts here.

So I'm still not doing as much exercise as I should be, but I am managing to ease myself back into it. I've been getting better with my eating habits and am eating less "crap" again which is definitely a good thing and I'm trying to do a bit of light exercise every day while easing myself back into my old routines. I've also been poorly with a cold and that made me feel less like I wanted to do lots of exercise!

I've found my fitness plan really helpful and it definitely motivates me to have something to tick off every day etc. Plus now I have my Christmas party and my birthday coming up in December, it's given me something to aim towards which can only be a good thing!

I decided to change up these posts a bit and also to make me feel accountable for my exercise and eating, I would post my measurements and losses at the end of each month. I'm not looking at weight because I found before that I was losing a lot of cms but not lbs, so I'm sure it will be a similar story this time too!

Area September October Difference
Waist 81cm 79cm -2CM
Hips 107cm 105cm -2CM

Considering I haven't been as good as I should be, I've still lost 2cms off my waist and hips! I'm not going to bother including my chest because nothing really changes with that- I've always been on the large side! But I'm pretty happy with this month's results and hopefully by the end of November I will have lost a few more cms!

If you're trying to get fitter, how has your month been?

Aldi 3-in-1 Sandwich Toaster

Aldi 3-in-1 Sandwich Toaster

For a while now, I've been thinking about getting a sandwich toaster. I love going to cafe's and ordering a toastie with my hot drink for a lovely lunch and I'd love to be able to recreate that at home, especially now that I'm trying to save money for a mortgage!

So when I was asked if I wanted to try out Aldi's new 3-in-1 sandwich toaster*, I was over the moon and excited to say yes!

For a limited time, Aldi are launching a Specialbuy's Kitchen Range which includes this 3-in-1 sandwich toaster but also a range of other products such as espresso machines, slow cookers and more.

The reason it is called a 3-in-1 sandwich toaster is because not only does it toast delicious sandwiches, but it also toasts panini's and makes waffles too!

I haven't tried out the waffle function yet but I've had a few sandwiches and a panini and I loved it- it's so quick and does a fantastic job! The only thing I would mention is to make sure that you give it time to burn off that "plastic" smell, but that's the same with anything like this so I'm sure you would expect that too! (Also it does let out a lot of steam while it's toasting- don't freak out and think you're about to burn your house down. Not that I did that or anything...)

Aldi 3-in-1 Sandwich Toaster

For £14.99, this is amazing value as you would expect from Aldi and I feel is worth every penny. They're only available while stocks last, so once they are gone they're gone- so make sure you take advantage of it if you're looking for new items for your kitchen!

Have you tried any of the Aldi's Specialbuy ranges before? Let me know what you thought!

*Aldi sent me the 3-in-1 sandwich toaster, however as usual all opinions are 100% my own!

Rainforest Cafe London | Review

My favourite restaurant to go to is the Rainforest Cafe in London. I'm not sure if it reminds me of Walt Disney World because of their Rainforest Cafe or whether I just love the whole idea of it, but either way I adore it.

The Rainforest Cafe is in Piccadilly Circus in London and it's pretty hidden, it doesn't scream RAINFOREST CAFE like the Floridian one does (You kinda can't miss a building shaped like a Volcano can you?!) but inside it is just as wonderful.

Rainforest Cafe London
Rainforest Cafe London

The restaurant has been made to look like a real life Rainforest, with trees, plants and animals! Not real animals of course, that would be cruel, but animatronic gorillas, elephants, snakes etc. Every now and then, a thunderstorm will occur which will cause all the animals to start making noise, the lighting dims and brightens to represent lightning and the sound of thunder fills the room. It might be a bit childish for some, but Dan and I love this place.

Rainforest Cafe London
Rainforest Cafe London

We went there recently to have dinner as a bit of a treat and as always, we had an amazing time. We went for our "usuals", I had a Rainforest Cafe Steak Burger and Dan had a Chicken Caesar salad. I didn't eat the majority of my burger but only because we'd had nachos to start with and I'd filled up too much. Cry. I did get to take it home in a takeaway box though, so it went down a treat later on that night!

Rainforest Cafe London

If I had to find something I'm not a fan of? It would probably be their cocktail menu. I think they realise the majority of their customers are families who perhaps don't want to drink alcohol and I get that, but I do wish that their menu would feature similar cocktails to the Florida restaurant- not that I didn't enjoy my Woo Woo! (Dan had a strawberry mojito in case you're wondering what the second drink is and he loved it too!)

Apart from that though, I genuinely love this restaurant. The service is always amazing and they are incredible when it comes to allergies, they will explain the menu thoroughly and if you order an item that may contain something you are intolerant or allergic to, they will let you know straight away. A lot of restaurants don't care about that, so it's good that they do!

Also- I've never been able to face dessert because I've always been too full, but if you are going to go for a dessert, get a Volcano. Who doesn't love huge slabs of chocolate brownies made to look like a volcano?! One day I will be able to order this. One day!

Have you ever been to any of the Rainforest Cafe's? Let me know your thoughts!

Disneyland Paris: This or That Tag

Disneyland Paris: This or That Tag

I was asked by the lovely Lizi to do her Disneyland Paris: This or That Tag and it seemed like a really fun one to do! You may have seen my previous Disneyland Paris tag, so this is a fun addition to it!

Disneyland Park or Walt Disney Studios?
Hands down, it has to be Disneyland Park. Don't get me wrong, I do love the Walt Disney Studios but Disneyland Park reminds me of visiting when I was a child and has all the magic and fairy dust that I love.

It’s A Small World or Peter Pan’s Flight?
This is a hard question and I'm only on question 2 haha! I'm going to go with Peter Pan's Flight, simply because I've always loved it, I love the feeling that you're "flying". Having said that, when I was 6 I forced my family to go on It's a Small World 6 times in a row!

Hotel Cheyenne or Hotel Santa Fe?
I adore Hotel Cheyenne and I'm hoping that next time I visit Disneyland I will stay there again (if not Sequoia Lodge!). I have stayed in Santa Fe and although it was nice, it just wasn't my favourite place. It felt very basic, which is probably because it's one of the lower priced hotels, but Cheyenne is around the same price and has never felt basic to me. I also stayed there with an ex, so bad memories!

Cable Car Bake Shop or Market House Deli?
Cable Car Bake Shop because it's adorable and I love cake! ;)

Crush’s Coaster or RC Racer?
I haven't done either yet, but Crush's coaster appeals to me a lot more- I can't do big rides because of my dizziness so RC Racer would probably make me pass out!

Disney’s Halloween Festival or Christmas at Disneyland Paris?
I've never been to Disneyland during Christmas time although I would absolutely love to! I've been for Halloween though and it was amazing. I can't choose between the two but if I HAD to, I will choose Christmas as I'd love to do it!

Star Tours or Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast?
Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast is one of my favourite rides! It's so much fun, so I would definitely choose that!

Animagique or Cinemagique?
I'm not sure if I've seen Cinemagique, so I will go with Animagique!

Le Carrousel de Lancelot or Le Pays de Contes de Fées?
Le Pays de Contes de Fées along with the Casey Junior ride are my favourite rides. It's so peaceful and makes you feel like you're part of the magic. The carousel bores me a bit, soz.

Flying Carpets over Agrabah or Orbiton?
I've never done Orbiton but the rockets look tiny, are they tiny? I love the Flying Carpets though (although Dumbo is the best of all 3!)

Sequoia Lodge or Newport Bay Club?
I've only stayed in Sequoia Lodge, but my friends have stayed in Newport Bay and they said it wasn't great, so I would choose Sequoia. I'd love to do them all one day though, so I would try Newport for myself.

Mad Hatters Tea Cups or Dumbo Flying Elephants?
Dumbo's Flying Elephants for sure! Tea cups make me poorly. :(

Pizzeria Bella Notte or Colonel Hathi’s Pizza Outpost?
I love Lady and the Tramp so I love Pizzeria Bella Notte!

Swing Into Spring or Frozen Summer Fun?
Frozen is doing my head in now, so Swing into Spring even though I don't know what that is!

Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains or Les Voyages de Pinocchio?
The Pinocchio ride terrifies me even now, so the Snow White ride wins for me- although the witch is terrifying too!

Alice’s Curious Labyrinth or La Cabane des Robinson?
Alice's Labyrinth! I haven't done it since I was a little girl so I wonder if I'd still get lost or whether I'm too tall? (Lol, I'm like 5ft4)

Liberty Arcade or Discovery Arcade?
Liberty Arcade gives me all the feels, I miss walking through there so much.

Fantasyland or Frontierland?
Fantasyland will ALWAYS win for me, although I do enjoy Frontierland.

Pirates of the Caribbean or Phantom Manor?
Pirates of the Caribbean- quick fun fact, the DLP POTC is better than Walt Disney Worlds. It has TWO drops, WDW's has one.

Cowboy Cookout Barbecue or Au Chalet de la Marionnette?
Au Chalet de la Marionnette, I'm not sure I've been to the Cowboy Cookout!

Space Mountain or Hollywood Tower of Terror?
I can't do either because of my dizziness but I would prefer to try Space Mountain than Tower of Terror!

Big Thunder Mountain or Indiana Jones Et Le Temple Du Péril?
Big Thunder Mountain- although I haven't done Disneyland's version, only the WDW version, but I bet it's just as good!

Inventions or Auberge de Cendrillon?
Auberge de Cendrillon, because I met Belle there for the first time and it made my life.

Disney Fashion or The Disney Gallery?
The Disney Gallery although it's dangerous to go in there because I spend too much!

Discoveryland or Adventureland?
Discoveryland because I'm a good fiance and know Dan would prefer it.

Cafe Hyperion or The Lucky Nugget Saloon?
The Lucky Nugget Saloon was fun when we went there, I remember really enjoying it.

La Galerie de la Belle au Bois Dormant or La Tanière du Dragon?
La Tanière du Dragon- I can't wait to take Dan down there when we visit (anyone notice how before it was IF we visit and now after doing this tag I've decided we definitely are? Whoops...)

Annette’s Diner or Planet Hollywood?
This is a hard one because I adore both, but I'm going to go with Annette's Diner, because I can go to the London Planet Hollywood but I can't visit another Annette's Diner!

I'm not going to tag people, but if you have been to Disneyland Paris and you want to do this tag, feel free and let me know- I'd love to read your answers!

Ghost Cake Pops | Halloween Cake Decorating!

Ghost Cake Pops

WoOoOoOoO... Ahem. I'll stop now, but you get the gist.

A quick and delicious treat for any Halloween party are these cute Ghost cake pops! They're super simple to make so I thought I would share them with you!

You will need:

  • A Cake Pop Mould
  • Vanilla Cake Mix
  • Cake Pop Sticks
  • A few squares of white chocolate
  • White Fondant
  • Black Fondant
  • Rolling pin
  1. First, you will need to make your cake mixture. I would recommend making a vanilla cake as it is light so won't show up underneath your white fondant!
  2. Then, put your mixture into the cake pop moulds and bake for the recommended amount of time depending on the recipe you are using!
  3. Once the cake pops are out of the oven, leave them to cool completely before you attempt to start decorating.
  4. Once the cake pops are ready to decorate, melt your few squares of white chocolate either in the microwave or in a bowl above boiling water.
  5. Dip your cake pop sticks in the melted white chocolate and then put into the cake pops.
  6. If you can, put into the freezer for 5 minutes to allow the white chocolate to set inside of the cake pops.
  7. While you wait, start rolling out your white fondant ready to cover your cake pops with. You need to make sure your fondant is not too thick as it will weigh down the cake pop. The good thing is, you won't need much fondant at all due to how small the cake pops are!
  8. Using a small knife, cut out enough fondant to cover the cake pop.
  9. Drape the fondant over the cake pop, pinching the draping fondant into pleats.
  10. Roll tiny balls of black fondant and add onto the white fondant for eyes!
And that's it! Making the cake pops themselves takes the longest, the actual decorating you could easily do in 30 mins max!

As always, let me know if you do make these by tweeting me @cakeydreamer!

My Favourite Disney Films

If you've been following my blog for a while, you will probably have guessed that I am a huge Disney fan. I've always loved Disney, ever since I was young and the love has never waned, even when I was a teenager and it wasn't "cool" to love Disney (pfft). I thought today I would share with you my favourite Disney films and why they're my favourites! (All images are from Disney Screencaps)

My favourite Disney films
Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast is my absolute favourite film, as well as Disney film. It hasn't always been (and I'll talk more about that in a minute), but as I grew up and kind of understood a bit more why Belle is so awesome (the fact she stands up to the Beast despite him scaring her was always one of my top moments!) and understood the themes behind it, e.g. loving someone for what's inside them rather than looks, the more I grew to love it. The songs, the animation, the characters, all of it just fills me with this lovely warm feeling inside.

My favourite Disney films
The Little Mermaid
When I was growing up, The Little Mermaid was my all time favourite. I adored Ariel, I loved the fact she was rebellious and headstrong, I loved the idea of love at first sight and Eric's pretty cute (for an animated character). I still love The Little Mermaid, although I do find myself agreeing more with King Triton than Ariel nowadays which means I am a boring grown up. Boooooo. Ursula is one of my favourite villains as well, I love her sass.

My favourite Disney films
I guess my main attachment to Aladdin is because it came out in the year I was born. Rubbish reason to have an attachment, but ah well. I always loved the Genie as well and I was so sad when Robin Williams passed away. Again, I always preferred the Princesses who had real personalities and were stronger and Jasmine 100% fits that bill. My favourite line of hers is when she says "I am NOT a prize to be won!". Prince Ali is also one of my favourite Disney songs too! Fun fact- hypnosis REALLY freaks me out, and therefore have to fast forward or skip the bits where Jafar hypnotizes the Sultan.

My favourite Disney films
101 Dalmatians
As you can probably tell by the fact I have a dalmatian, I love 101 Dalmatians. I can't watch the live action version though, because when the puppies are in danger it makes me think of Lady and I can't cope haha. But the cartoon version is fine. I always like to think that me and Dan are like Roger and Anita haha- although one dalmatian is enough for us!

My favourite Disney films
Lady and the Tramp
Before you ask, yes Lady is named after Lady and the Tramp ;). My favourite part of this film is when Lady is a puppy, she's ADORABLE. And of course, the spaghetti scene which everyone loves. I think I just love that the story is so simple but also has so many different emotions, it makes you laugh, cry, get angry... all of the emotions! Plus, *spoiler alert*, their puppies are super cute and makes me want to get many more dogs.

Those are my top 5 favourite Disney films! I would carry on but we'll probably be here all day haha! What are your favourites, are yours similar to mine? I'd love to know them!

Tips for Saving Money

Tips for Saving Money

As you may know, Dan and I are saving for a mortgage so that we can buy our own house. It's pretty hard, but we've found that we've been learning little ways we can save money each month. I thought I would share with you some of the little ways we've been trying to save money- maybe they'll be able to help you!

  • Cutting back on Starbucks/Costa/etc. I'm a sucker for Starbucks and Costa, especially as there is a drive thru Costa a few minutes drive away from my house- and conveniently also on my way to work. This means I often stop by and then go to a nearby Starbucks on my lunch break and it's surprising how much it all adds up! It might only cost you £2 something, but if you add that up per week and per month, you're spending a lot of money! Now I try to treat myself once a week and the rest of the time just make more time in the mornings for a coffee before I leave for work, and make a coffee at work during my lunch break. It saves so much!

  • Taking lunch to work Another big cost is buying lunches. Like with coffee, it doesn't seem much when you're paying at the till, but when you add it all up at the end of the month it's a LOT of money. I try to make my lunches the night before work and then take them in- it's helping me with my weight loss too so it's a win win situation!

  • Keeping a list of what I spend I've found this really helpful, mainly because it made me realise how much I was spending on nothing! After that, it's good to see how much you're saving!

  • Only buying 1 treat per month So if I really want something, I either buy it that month or wait until the following month. That way I don't overspend and I save more. Of course if it's something I need then that's different, but I mean like new DVD's or whatever. This also includes things like going out for meals etc.

If you have any tips, I would love to hear them! We've only just started and it will be a long process, but hopefully these little things will help a lot!

I'm going to be really boring and I'm so sorry, but my answer is 100% no. I just know I wouldn't be able handle it and I hate it when celebs do it knowing they're just going to cry and leave early!

2. If you could choose 1 song to sum up your week, which song would you choose?
Always look on the bright side of life! Everything seems to be going wrong for me this week haha!

3. Do you prefer home cooking, going out to a restaurant or take-away?
Going out to a restaurant for sure, I'm not a great cook and take-aways are nice but never as good as the food served in a restaurant!

4. What's your least favourite thing about blogging?
Probably scheduling tweets. It's so great when it's done but doing it is a bit of a pain! I love everything else though!

5. If you could travel to any part of the world, where would you visit?
I'd love to tour America and visit lots of different places. California, New York, Seattle, Washington DC... so many places I'd love to see.

6. What's your favourite dessert?
Anything chocolate! I'm a huge chocolate fan!

7. Recommend a book you've read and really enjoyed recently.
I really love historical novels and I've been reading Phillipa Gregory's Tudor series, about when Henry VIII was around. She does SO much research that most of what she writes comes from facts, so you can kind of learn from them too!

8. Favourite TV programme or cartoon when you were younger?
I used to rush home from school in time to watch Arthur when I was little. Google it if you've never heard of it! He was an Aardvark :)

9. Favourite thing to do when you visit the seaside?
One time I went to the beach with my two friends and we made a mermaids tail for me out of sand. That was pretty cool!

10. Do you have any talents? If so, what are they?
Is cake decorating a talent? Maybe that. I can also sing!

11. Name a song that begins with a title beginning with each letter of your first name.
I really cannot think of a song that begins with S I A N. I'm so sorry!

My Questions are:

  1. What's your favourite childhood memory?
  2. Did you have an imaginary friend and if so, what was their name? (Shh, it's not two questions)
  3. What is your biggest fear?
  4. If you HAD to go on any reality tv show, which would it be?
  5. What's your favourite thing about being a blogger?
  6. Do you have any pets?
  7. Where would you love to visit if money was no object?
  8. What TV show do you love at the moment?
  9. What's your most embarrassing memory? (You can read mine here)
  10. What's your favourite cake/baked good?
  11. What's your proudest achievement?

For nominees- well, if you want to do this tag, then you are welcome to do it! Let me know your answers, I'd love to hear them!

Walt Disney World Homeware Wishlist

Since getting back from our holiday to Disney World, Dan and I have been starting to save for a mortgage for our own house. It's going to be a long and boring process, but once we have our own house it will definitely be worth it! It also means however, that I am constantly looking for different homeware items ready for that fateful day we move in!

Of course, the first place I look is the US Disney Store website. In Florida, there were SO many items we both saw that we loved and I think it will be super difficult to stop ourselves buying them online and paying the shipping costs. However, it's pretty doubtful we will be able to afford it! I thought I'd keep the dream alive a little bit longer though and share with you some of our favourite items!

Be Our Guest Dining Set
As a huge Beauty and the Beast fan, I love this dining set. I also love it because it's not "in your face" Disney themed, you would only really know it was Disney if you knew the song etc., which is good! There are bowls, plates and glasses in this set so you really could have a whole theme!

Beauty and the Beast Tea Towels [UPDATE: No longer available on the website]
Well if I get the Be Our Guest dining set, I'll HAVE to get these tea towels won't I?! (Please agree with me and make me feel better!) I'd probably be too afraid to use them, as I probably would be with the dining sets, but I could get them out for special occasions. Like when the Queen visits.

Magic Kingdom themed Dining Set
So, if I DID want an "in your face" Disney themed dining set, this would definitely be the one I would go for. I love the Fantasyland set but I think I would get a mixture of Fantasyland and Tomorrowland so that it's a mixture of Dan and my favourite lands. Like with the Be Our Guest set, there are glasses, plates, bowls and I think also mugs for this set- I definitely think this is my favourite!

Once Upon a Time/Happily Ever After Cushion [UPDATE: No longer available on website]
I was going to get this cushion when we visited Walt Disney World in 2014 and I was adamant I was DEFINITELY going to get it in 2015, but both times we didn't have the room in our suitcases and so my quest for this cushion continues. *sad face* I hope I'll get it someday, I'd love to have it sitting on my couch or on a chair.

Beauty and the Beast Throw [UPDATE: No longer available on website]
Yeah I know, there's a theme but it's my favourite film and this throw looks gorgeous! No idea where I would put it, perhaps over the bed? I'd be a bit worried Lady would rip it with her claws, so maybe on the spare bed. Reserved for the Queen.

I think the majority of these items I would love to have but would be too afraid to use in case they got ruined/broken! But on the other hand, they're really wonderful things that I would love to be able to use. I guess we'll see if we ever go back there/get rich enough to afford shipping haha!

Are there any items on this list that you would like too? Or what would YOU love to have in your dream house? Let me know!

How To Get Your Motivation Back for Fitness!

How to get your motivation back for fitness!

Before my holiday, I was posting a lot of fitness themed posts as my motivation to get fitter and slimmer was at an all time high. I even managed to keep this motivation up for the majority of my holiday- I was walking an average of 20,000 steps a day! Once I got back though, it was a different story and I found I was starting to slip back into my old ways. With perseverance though, I've managed to get myself back into the swing of healthy eating and regular exercise and I'm starting to see results again! I thought I would share my tips to help any of you who are struggling with post-holiday blues or just a general lack of motivation!:

1. Research healthy foods on Pinterest
Food always looks amazing on Pinterest. I'm a ridiculously fussy eater, but the photos on Pinterest always make me want the healthy food and it's helped SO much. I then write a shopping list and plan my food for the week- something I need to get better at actually!

2. Find a buddy (or buddies!)
A while ago, my friends and I decided to do a small competition between each other to lose weight, and whoever lost the most by the deadline won a free spa treatment. The thing I loved most about this was that when you felt a bit down or needed some motivation, you could turn to your buddies and they'd help! I told some other bloggers that I know about this, and we decided to start a new little buddy system for each other. If you want to join, we use the hashtag #GetFitBloggers, and you can join myself, Jilly, Jess and Amy on our journey!

3. Make a Fitness Plan
I made a plan of what kind of exercises I want to do on what day. I don't always stick to it, but I do most of the time and it helps me get on and do it if I see this plan on my bedroom wall- plus Dan likes to give me a little nudge if I'm being lazy, which is what I need! You can see my fitness plan here!

4. Remember your Goals
My main goal was always just to be slimmer, fitter and healthier, it wasn't just for my holiday, but I'd kind of forgotten that! Once I remembered my main goal for eating healthier and exercising, it helped to give me that much needed nudge/shove to get off my backside and DO something!

5. Set Small Goals
Sometimes, we all set such big goals for ourselves that we end up getting demotivated, so make sure you set smaller goals! For example, I try to set myself small goals like losing 1-2lbs per week. I try not to get too hung up on them because let's face it, sometimes you slip up because people bring doughnuts to work (or, y'know, whatever is your weakness) but I try to achieve the small goals as much as I can. Then the small goals start adding up and before you know it, you've lost half a stone or more!

Do you have any tips for keeping yourself motivated? Not just for fitness perhaps but for anything else? Let me know in the comments!

The perfect romantic night in with Aldi's Riesling Wine

Romantic night in with Aldi's Riesling Wine

Life has been a little bit hectic recently. Nothing too crazy, but my work is getting busier and Dan is working all sorts of crazy hours, we've had some work going on in our house and with spending so much time on Blogtober, I just wanted to spend a night away from phones, away from laptops, away from everything and just have some proper "together" time. It's really rare that me and Dan get a whole weekend off together as he hardly ever gets weekends off, so I wanted to start it with a romantic night in together.

A Romantic Night in with Aldi's Riesling Wine

Luckily for me, Dan was the perfect gentleman and cooked me a gorgeous sirloin steak with chips (excuse the burnt bits :P). He'd bought The Big Bang Theory Season 8 on DVD a couple of days before and was SUPER excited to watch it, so we snuggled down and watched that. I was also lucky enough to be sent a bottle of Exquisite Collection Clare Valley Riesling wine* from Aldi, so we enjoyed a couple of glasses of that with our dinner. What I loved about this wine is that usually white wine gives you that burning sensation at the back of your throat and because of that, I can only handle a couple of sips at a time. But with this Riesling, I could literally "glug" it (ladylike huh?) and be absolutely fine, it was so smooth and refreshing! Apparently it goes amazingly well with seafood or salad or Thai dishes, but I can tell you we enjoyed it with our steak too!

A Romantic Night in with Aldi's Riesling Wine

The best part of this Friday night was that it didn't cost much at all- the DVD probably cost more than the entire meal! I was sent the bottle of wine so therefore didn't need to pay for it but it was an absolutely fabulous wine for only £6.99! I asked Dan how much he thought it cost and he said a LOT more than that, and Dan's been dealing with expensive wines in 4* hotels for the past 15 years, so if you don't believe me, believe him!

I definitely needed this night, I've been putting so much pressure on myself recently to do so much and I think it's been getting on top of me a bit. I've also been a bit poorly and now that I'm finally feeling better, it was about time I treated myself and relaxed- thanks to Aldi for helping me do that with the bottle of wine!

What's your perfect night in and have you ever tried any of Aldi's wine range?

*Aldi sent me their bottle of wine for review, but as always all opinions are 100% my own.

Bubbling Cauldron Cake | Halloween Cake Decorating!

Bubbling Cauldron Halloween Cake

I really wasn't sure whether or not to post this one as I'm not exactly happy with the way this cake came out. But then I realised, I started this blog as a way to document my progress in cake decorating, good or bad. Yes, I have branched off into lifestyle etc., and made this blog a bit more me but I still want to continue documenting my cakes and progress so, be kind!

Bubbling Cauldron Halloween Cake

I wanted to make a Halloween themed cake and decided to make a Witch's cauldron. I'd only really seen a cake like this in cupcake form, and boy do I now know why- it took FOREVER to make the bubbles. I'm not joking, I spent an hour and a half just making bubbles. It's pretty therapeutic so I'm not going to complain but by the end I had gotten fed up of it. (It also made me crave peas...)

At the end of this month, I'm going to try to make this cake again for the Bake Sale we're having at work and I think I'll try making this cake taller and dig a bigger hole for the bubbles. Or maybe I'll just make it as cupcakes and make life easier!

Bubbling Cauldron Halloween Cake

I've always found black fondant hard to work with and this was no exception- I find that it dries out and cracks really easily so I have to keep using trex to make it moist again. (Sorry if you hate that word!)

Are you planning on baking anything for this Halloween? I have a few more ideas, so hopefully they will go better than this- and hopefully at the end of this month I'll have a better version of this cake to show you!
